I was in the upper deck on the visitors (LSU ticket allottment) side. When Kentucky kicked the go ahead field goal, most people around me stayed, including a young couple of recent LSU Alums who were in graduate school at Ohio State, a few hours to the North. It was their first LSU Game in 2 years. Sorry they left early. After the dogpile near the Kentucky bench, there was a scene of deflated bewilderment as to what had just happened.Kentucky students on the field and the Wildcat football team shrank from the field as if they were sedaated. Fans in Blue disappeared from Commonwealth Stadium in about 30 seconds. We remaining Tiger fans descended on the first level around the Golden Band while it played the entire LSU repetiore until the stadium announcer requested the stadium be cleared. We then followed the Band as it marched out of the stadium right through the premium tailgating area just north of the stadium, pausing to do a valedictory PreGame Salute to the delight of all of us in Purple/Gold and to the utter dismay of the still in shock Kentucky faithful.
The next day we went to the Patton Armor Museum at Fort Knox before flying home from Cincinatti. Also, on the morning of gameday, we toured beautiful Claiborne Farms, home of Secretariat. Obviously, a wonderful road trip!!
