I'm sure its been discussed at some point in this thread, but here's what i think:

The sub version is better in my opinion. It's more intense, the dialog is way more adult themed and makes the villains seem darker and battles are generally more viscous and awesome.

The dubbed version is what i watched as a kid. It's less intense, they changed a bunch of the dialog, its got some hilarious parts to it.

One of the biggest differences is Vegeta. He is a way more awesome character in the sub versions where he can curse and be a brutal dickhead.

They're different in about every way. Geared towards different audiences. Different dialogue, even the battles are different. But they're both worth watching.

There's also just random stuff changed. The dub version is backwards. LIke when Piccolo first shows up he and Freeza fight: n the dub Piccolo is on the left, but in the sub he is on the right.

Original Japanese dialogue is certainly more adult/intense. Wouldn't say better, but only speaking my opinion. Like I've said here numerous times, I can watch either and be perfectly fine. I just prefer watching the English dub, because it's what I started with. The English dub is what i grew up with, and the voices are entrenched in my head. I also prefer the Bruce Faulconer score. The music throughout DBZ is so intense, I get goosebumps sometimes watching an epic moment, such as Piccolo showing up to fight Frieza. (The left and right thing is due to a mirrored image)
