Sorry if this has been discussed before but reading the thread about our plethora of running backs had me wondering, is this the most talented LSU team ever? I can't think of any other team that's been 2-3 deep at most positions. This is by far the best group of running backs as a whole that we've ever had, I was just wondering what you guys thought as far as the overall team.

People can say what they want about Les, but the man can recruit and no one can take that away from him. The best thing about it is there's no end in sight with the 2013 recruiting class shaping up to be one of the best in school history.

I think 1999 was the best team ever. Had Hal Hunter coached all year, we would have won the BCS.

Sunnydaze, that could certainly be the case. I guess the reason I feel that this team is better or more talented is because the player that hindered us for the last 4 years graduated! So even though Mett was on the team last year I feel much better about the most important position on the field this year. Lol

Lots other of MAJOR playmakers on the field, brah. O-Line and D-Line are filthy, DB's are nasty and ravenous. The Mett is in the limelight and will be surrounded by top-tier talent to help him run the tables this year. Wide receivers are blazing fast and are in top form...so to answer your question -- we should all have a massive hard-on for 2012!!

IMO, '12 could be the most talented ever but it depends on:
a) Mett at QB
b) Becoming dominant on the DL (and we should be)
c) Getting some return men going (OBJ, et al)
d) WR corps developing

'03 was great so much so because of the dominating DL play.

It shouldn't surprise anyone if our D is as good or better than 2011. The skill players are just as talented. The key difference will be the most important position on the the field, the QB. If we have someone can keep people from stacking the box because he's an actual threat, I think the 2012 edition would be much better.

I've always considered 2006 team the best on paper. I think that team was so talented that 11-2 was underachieving.

2011 was too hindered at QB to me. I'm really shocked at how good the team was considering the QB play. It's amazing.

I agree, we have a talented group of WRs but other than OB none have really proven themselves yet. I do wish we had that 1 tall target like RR but if if these guys can step up then height won't matter that much. I'll take another Josh Reed any day! We have a lot of young talent at LB that I'm hoping can step up but we don't have a whole lot of experience there either. Other than that we're absolutely loaded IMO

If Mett can consistently be a passing threat our running game will be wide open, yea I know that is a scary thought!! Ware to do what his last name says and Wear a defense down and then take your pick to finish off drives in the redzone... Golden strategy!

And I do think this team will be all around the best ever and mostly because of QB but the last 2 teams were great in their own respect.

NFL talent at every position...should've been among the best teams of all time.

Hard to beat the 1982 defense. I think every defensive starter made an NFL team roster.

Really they were, they won the Sugar Bowl together. And Early got him a NC ring.

There could certainly be a strong case made for that 06 team. Man we were hitting on all cylinders at the end of that season. We set Notre Dames program back 5 years after the beating we gave them in the Sugar Bowl! Hell they still haven't recovered from it!

I agree that this team may be the best ever after the season plays out. However, the 1997 RBs were the best: Faulk, Mealey, Collins, and Banks.

Collins is still the most dominating back I have ever seen. Too bad he was dumber than a brick.

It pretty amazing when you think about the level of success that we've been able to maintain over the last 12 years. We've had a couple of dips but we've fielded some really great teams and I'm sitting here thinking this team could be the best we've ever had! We've won the SEC 4 times during this run and played for a 5th. Pretty impressive to say the least.
