LSU vs. Nebraska 1971 Orange Bowl

Defender (can't recall who) just slipped and A&M reciever ran like 70 yds untouched for the winner! Was a totally flukish ending but it was what it was!

I believe it was Paul Lyons, who was actually a QB but was for some reason inserted as DB.
Mac was always doing stupid stuff like that though.

That was the '70 opener. Butch Duhe had suddenly passed away of a brain hemorrhage the week before.
LSU was heavily favored over A&M but played with heavy hearts.
Still, LSU led 18-13 with seconds left, when A&M QB Lex James through the hail mary to Carl Roaches. LSU DBs slipped and fell down after mistimed jump and Roaches snagged it and ran for the winning TD. Only other losses that year were 3-0 at Notre Dame and 17-12 in Orange to #1 Nebraska.
One of my favorite LSU games of all time was that year - 61-17 over Ole Miss on Dec. 5 for the SEC title, our first since '61. It was on ABC Prime time with Chris Schenkel and Lee Grosscup.
