Unless it denies a clear goal scoring opportunity there should be some alternative than just giving a PK (and essentially a goal) to the other team.

Just like when some player running full speed gets a touch on the ball 2 yards before it goes out of bounds and there is zero chance of him ever getting to the ball before it goes out but then he gets knicked and goes flying. Or when a player is fouled at the edge of the box going away from goal. No way that should be what basically amounts to an automatic goal.

Punishment is way too harsh for the crime. Just let them take a free kick from the spot of the foul. Just because it occurs inside some arbitrary lines doesn't mean it should have to result in a PK imo.

Here is where I have an issue. I agree with this in certain circumstances. I've seen hand balls in the box called when hands were down and it was just tough luck. That guy had his arm extended literally reaching. There is no excuse. That is a PK and always should be. Just because there wasn't 3 guys unmarked in front of goal doesn't mean it's not a goal scoring opportunity. Also, I know you said you had no interest in winning the "losers bracket" but it's mind blowing to me that you'd rather lose it. Who actually hopes their team loses?

A PK is called in that situation MAYBE 5% of the time. It simply does not happen. Give the refs just a bit of credit.
