MOTM performance.
His athleticism is extraordinary. And honestly, it seems as if his decision making in regard to passing has gotten even quicker this year. The man has totally transferred roles and gone from one of the best box to box guys to one of the best deep lying play makers in a flawless transition, and all in the course of just one year. He really is one of the greatest of all time.

Unfortunately, set piece defending is not just a senior team concern... West Ham scored on 3 corners today to negate a couple of nice goals from Suso (2) and Sterling...
3-3 final... they equalized in the dying minutes...

I think the issue here is the fact that the club through out all levels practised Zonal marking under Rafa's regime. Rodgers employs man to man marking (as did Kenny and Woy but their collective reigns were tumultuous to say the least) we will get used to it. The fact that we lost our defensive coach in Steve Clarke. I am confident the defence will work it self out.

Since I didn't play the sport what are the major differences between the zonal & man2man? What makes each one better than the other?
Posted on 3/11/13 at 3:59 pm to McRebel42
Everyone will disagree with me, but zonal is more effective when you have the right personnel. Unfortunately we'll never be good at set piece defense, regardless of the tactics, because our squad is tiny.

Without making it too convoluted. Zonal marking is when each defender has his set zone and does not move out of his zone. The zone is that particular defender's responsibility. With man-to-man marking each defender has an opponent to mark out and defend against. So if your opponent moves you move with him, your opponent is your responsibility. Usually your marking target is decided before the game and is part of the game strategy (usually is the target is an accomplished header or finisher and you are the best defender in the air) sometimes (this is more rare) who marks who is decided right before the set piece. This is when Carra shout obscenities at people and makes them stick to opponents.
Think of it this way Zonal marking is when you are trying to stop the ball from getting to the opponent. Man to man is when you are trying to stop the opponent from getting to the ball. Neither is necessarily better than the other it is just based on the manager's choice and tactical nous.

Allen out for the rest of the season.

Damn that's pretty impressive.
Honestly I expect a good run for the home stretch ... what do y'all think is realistic. Here are our remaining matches:
Personally I see us winning 7 of the remaining 9 with a draw against Newcastle and a loss to Chelsea.
Thats and added 22 points up the table.
Those added points would let us finish with a total of 67.
Arsenal's Remaining Fixtures
Chelsea's Remaining Fixtures
(* Top Ten sides)
So the question is ... Will we have a legitimate shot at challenging these teams for the spots ahead of us or is it more realistic to say we are where we are and let's finish strong?

I see us getting 17-19 points. Think we'll probably draw a couple away matches and lose one or two.

Dunno, I tried to be conservative when guessing arsenal's points and I think we should at least get 20

I basically did the same for Liverpool but the difference between us & Arsenal, well and Chelsea for the matter ... is we basically play nothing but bottom feeders with 3 top ten teams in the mix ... whereas Arsenal and Chelsea both have to play 5 top ten teams in their final matches.
I honestly say I could see, not saying it'll happen though, Arsenal moving into the fourth position and Liverpool moving into the fifth slot ... this is due to the fact that I believe Arsenal has an easier run of games as a whole than Chelsea and on top of that we play Chelsea not Arsenal and really could make up a point swing with a win against them. Plus they haven't been in the best form as of late and their team seems to be lost IMO.

Pretty nervous after watching the Barcelona match. There have been rumblings that they are going after Agger, and they sure as frick need him. Their defense is shaky to be kind.
I'd be open to a Mascherano + cash swap for Agger

frick that we need Agger and we need to add to him. I'm okay ... somewhat if Skrtel leaves and we get a good replacement. I'm NOT OK with Agger leaving just yet.
We need to keep this core together and build if we want UCL if not let's cash in and stay stuck in the mid table ... JMO

I'm in Destin for spring break and I just caught the highlights of the game, holy shite :bow
I can't believe we pulled that out after going down a goal. Words can't describe how happy I am the we won on Sunday
