Why do players transfer to a small mid-major in DIA over going to a DIAA and playing right away? I would understand going to a big mid-major or another BCS program and waiting a year, but why would want to go to an Arkansas State over say Jacksonville State (closer to his home anyway).
If a guy is transferring out due to playing time/depth chart issues, a future in pro football is probably not in the cards for him, so that may not be his #1 priority in picking a school to transfer to. ASU isn't exactly Harvard, but it's a better school than JSU.

Im not even talking NFL here, just the fact you have to sit out an entire season. In Sam Gibson's case it won't be a redshirt season, it will be a season he can play because he was already redshirted here and has 3 to play 3...so then it becomes an issue of playing only 2 years vs. 3 years. Not everyone plays CFB to go to the NFL, many play because it gets them through school and/or they love the game itself.

Academically I don't understand the argument about Arkansas State, they are not anything close to resembling a good academic institution.
