This is the absolute most important statement in this thread.

After that you need to calculate how much you spend per month on certain categories. I have the AMEX Blue Preferred with $75 annual fee. It gives you $150 cash back from the start then 6% cash back on groceries and 3% on gas/shopping. I easily spend enough in gas and groceries to get more cash back rewards than the $75 annual fee. Everyones situation is different.
