The legal thing to say is that the kids/parents pay for them but in reality some do and some don't. Many, many kids get to camp for free whether it's openly admitted or not. Some just don't pay and some are reimbursed. I personally think they should be free anyway. What else do the coaches have to do in June? They can't go on the road to recruit and contact is limited. They can't coach the team. They have camps and go on vacations during the summer. The camps are more beneficial to the school than the kids in most cases but I'm sure the NCAA and the schools have reasons for charging for the camps.
