New place opened on Hwy 30 in the old Shoney's building. they did extensive landscaping and remodeling, and just opened on the 22nd. Went today (5/23) with the Mrs. and had lunch. good crowd, but no wait, we were seated right away. Nice patio, nice bar area, did a great job changing it over from the Shoneys. we ordered a Chimichanga, and some burrito-flauta-taco- lunch combo with a guacamole taco on the side. We also got a small queso as an appetizer.
Our server was a very nice lady named Alex, who was very attentive, but not overboard. The Ice Tea was Community, and was good. The Chimi was greasy, like the fryer oil wasn't hot enough, but had good flavor to the chicken inside. Same problem with the flauta, but the flavor to the shredded beef was very good. the regular taco was good, and the Mrs. enjoyed the guacamole, but said it was a bit much on the taco. (guacamole taco has no meat, just guacamole, cheese, and lettuce in a shell).
the burrito was good, and the queso and salsa were excellent. all in all, it was very good, especially for being only the second day open, with an extensive menu, and a fun looking atmosphere. lots of food, we took a full to go plate home, and the bill was only a little over $26. I look forward to returning in the future.

Gonzales needs more Mexican joints like BR needs more sushi joints.

You certainly have to be in the right mood for it, but an avocado taco can actually be pretty good.
