With the perch season ending for me, I move on to the breeems. From the Cabelas Bargain Cave:
Shimano Scimitar 5' 6" UL $19.88
Mitchell Avocet II S500UL (different size shown) $24.99
The reel is almost the perfect size. Could be a little smaller, but those are hard to find.
The rod is whippy as crap. The large bluegill should be fun on this.

is that the one you are going to put NanoFil on?

What do those normally go for? Looks like you got a good deal though!

I went ahead and put it on one of my crappie poles. Just a slightly larger version of the above. It fished very well. Casting was amazing. No misses from slack. No twist issues. Only problem was, and this may all be in my head, the jig under cork seemed to fall slower. It made the tripples tall not really swim. The bite was poor, and I am probably placing blame where it does not belong.
I'll put 4lb mono on this one.

Have fun with it, I'll stick with my zebco 33 for perching

I've been using a Browning SuperLight and I'm happy with it....had a BPS MicroLite Elite but I dropped it in the river... Going to pick another one of them up next time I'm at BPS

after this past friday, I swore off Zebco spincast ultralights for perch jerkin.....I'm going to use ultralight spinning reels for everything now

I grew up on pencil sharpeners. I have no idea how anyone chooses to use them once over 12. TEHO, YMMV

What made you change your mind? I've never perch fished with a spinning reel, it's always been with a 33

those fricking pieces of shite won't cast more that 5 ft half the time....they are cheap as shite so I know I shouldn't expect a whole lot

When you tear them down and see how they are built, it's amazing they even work at all.
My dad would use them until the line cut a groove in the line pickup. he would then box it up and send back to Zebco with no note or anything. magically, a new one showed up about 2 weeks later.

What would you recommend for a spinning set up then? I may try it out.

Great catfish reels.
I'm talking about ultralights....not 33's....never used a 33 before
King, this is what I'm currently using Browning Superlight
I had one of these but lost it...getting another one soon....great reel/rod MicroLite Elite

I like that rod. The handle on my falcon UL is too short for my liking.

Preciate it, for $50 I'll try one out
