I look at spearboard occasionally for pictures and tournament info but there's not a whole lot of activity on it. Honestly just go into a dive shop and start asking questions, then you'll have an instant real-life forum.

The three things you really need are the best scuba training available, a good level head, and to start logging dives. It doesn't come from instantly but with time you'll get better and better. Just always keep safety and common sense as a priority. No fish is worth your life. The ocean doesn't care about you. You're trusting your life to your training, equipment, and decision making so make sure you go under with all three in tip-top shape.
