Could not hiring Jones have hurt recruiting??

I'm asking because I seriously don't know. I don't follow basketball recruiting nearly as close as football, or even baseball for that matter. But is it possible that jones was taken over a more qualified candidate because Alleva feared that recruiting in the state of LA would disappear (not that it's great as it is). But let's face it, LSU isn't a duke, Kansas, ucla, Indiana, etc and can't pull in the great out of state talent.

We will be able to recruit LA much better with Jones now, I can guarantee it. If we got R.Livingston as an assistant we wouldn't lose many guys from in-state.

So I guess you see this hire as a huge plus??
I'm curious to hear from the ones that don't like the hire and their opinions on the subject of recruiting.

In the extreme short term, I think this hire could help recruiting, but in the long-run, it will be the W-L that determines who comes.
Jones gives us a better shot at signing Gathers (a better Storm Warren) and guys like Coleman and Hammink who would probably sign with LSU either way.
But a better coach would win more games, making LSU more of a regional power over time.

Collis Temple would have scared everyone away by telling them how LSU didnt hire his buddy, right before he referred them to his son to join in an insurance pyramid scheme.

Collis Temple perpetuated the biggest lie in LA, that he controls the recruits in Louisiana, and will hold LSU hostage if he doesnt get his way. Alleva gave into the demands of a terrorist. Temple caught lightning in a bottle for a short period of time, and people have been too blind to see he is selling luck for skill.
Temple has been selling TJ didn't succeed because he didn't "embrace him"
The athletic department has been compromised. The inmates are running the asylum.

In all seriousness to the OP, I think the boosters who wanted Jones would have just been very lukewarm in recommending LSU but they wouldn't negatively recruit. I can't imagine they would be such Judases.

I agree with what you say. Immediate impact will be seen with recruiting. Long term is about Ws and Ls. But im sure he will do better than Trent. Hell, talent alone will beat in-state schools (trents teams had trouble). And im sure we can play 600% ball in the SEC once we keep LA guys here.

But getting some very solid recruits in "short term" will equal more W's, which by your logic will get us better recruits long term.
Do people think this guy can't coach AT ALL? I'm confused by it, because I really don't know. I watch college basketball, but mostly big time college ball. I want LSU to be there badly, and obviously the majority don't think jones will get us there.

I feel strongly CT was negatively recruiting

well, he couldnt get a better job than $200k North Texas for 11 years so he must be doing something right.

Okay... You almost have to negatively recruit if you wanna get the best players. This is the main reason why Ricardo didn't want to come here IMO.

That's what I'm thinking. I didn't follow this all that much and how much control CT has over athletes, but it seems to be alot. All the best players play AAU and if he controls that then that's a big deal in recruiting.
It's very very wrong for CT to do and he comes off like a piece of shite for it. But I'm not somebody qualified to comment on any of this really.

I mean swaying kids away from TJ.

Oh I gotcha. Different kind of negativity.

It wouldn't be enough to convince people, imo. 14-16 is better than 9-21 but both are pretty bad.
As for Temple, I doubt he was telling kids to not go to LSU. That would be terrible, and I don't even know if there's anyone he could really talk to besides maybe Brian Bridegwater.
Don't think he had anything to do with Gathers for example.

So you don't think he has a big influence on AAU kids in Louisiana (the same AAU that every good basketball player plays)?

Temple doesn't influence the entire AAU community as he would make you believe. He is still trying to get mileage off of one special team in mid-2000s. All coaches not named Trent Johnson have AAU connections other than CT2

I really don't think he had a big impact on kids in North LA and New Orleans at any point.
As for Baton Rouge, I believe Brian Williams was in a different AAU squad and had no connection with Temple.
There are tons of AAU teams in each state, and some of the better guys don't even play on LA teams, but instead go with the Houston squads.
And in terms of sway, Baton Rouge's AAU scene isn't like Houston's or small city powerhouses like Boo Williams in Virginia.
