Is it like Whole Foods or something?

No, they're generally much smaller.

I've been to probably a dozen of them. They do have decent produce but it's usually a pretty small store. They do have good prices on a lot of their house brand stuff and they typically have good prices on wine.

I'd much rather a Publix.

Wrong Powerman. Maybe for a Nawlins person with Dorignacs, Rouses,etc..available forever.

But, BR was a grocer wasteland, one that really just came to life and elevated it's game in the last ten years, with Whole Foods and Fresh Market causing Calvin's, Maxwell's, and Calandro's to up their games. Until a handful of years ago, my trunk wasn't just loaded with regular Spec's runs booze not found in La, it was full of Central Market, Rice Epicurean, etc..

Before 2000, in BR, there was basically Albertson's and Winn-Dixie. As even then, Matherne's and Calvin's and Calandro's had yet to step up their diverse mimic job of what is found at the Zabars of the world.

Trader Joe's offers an excellent signature line and at fair prices not found at Whole Foods. Much the same as does Costco with it's Kirkland brands.

Most know about Two Buck Chuck(Charles Shaw now $3),etc..so I'll just add for the beer snobs..Trader Joe's Mission St line of brews are by Firestone-Walker(currently only available via Spec's runs?)..

The Peanut Butter and also Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzels rock, and are a bargain.

My BR Punch List is coming to fruition, now need a Costco and SWA..and maybe a Sweet Tomatoes.
