So, LSU Men in 2012 NCAA Indoor are #5 and A&M is #8, LSU Women in 2012 NCAA Indoor are #3 and A&M is #5. Why do favor A&M?

im with you tex, but never heard the facilties issue, thought our track was very comepetitive overall, maybe A&M's is better...but agree if we go to a mid level sec program (not sure we are there yet) is not acceptable in any sport...sure fball, basektball and baseball are much more important, but no way a school like lsu should be in bottom half of our own conf (again, in track we are not)

wow, of course not! only equating the blind support some people give to others despite the behavior involved...but sorry if I gave the impression... bad example I guess.
having said this Pokey imo did not get the half of what she deserved for what she did and if anything should be thought of by all who love lsu sports as a cowardly, selfish and unethical traitor

Skip didn't have anything to do with Pat Henry leaving for A&M. In fact, he was willing to pay more to keep him than A&M offered. The reason Henry left was because A&M puts 30,000 fans in the stadium to watch a track meet. I guess there's not much to do over there. I can't think of anything more boring than watching a track meet (except maybe watching a swim meet).

A little hard for me to get "pissed" about track and field. Sure, it's cool if they do well, but do you really lose sleep over them being in "the middle of the pack" in the SEC?

Yep! Absolutely one of the worst decisions Skip and the athletic department has ever made. While our current coach is good, he's not Pat Henry. Look at what Henry's done at A&M. Results speak for themselves. If the administration is fine with good but not great then there won't be any change. Sad really as we had a dynasty going (especially on the women's side) with Henry at the helm!

Actually Louisiana has the highest percentage of ALL states of natives who stay in the state.
"Despite the displacement of thousands of residents after Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana continues to be the state with the highest percentage of people born there: 79percent in 2010." LINK

I swear, some of you people just don't don't know how things work. First, let's begin with the fact that Texas A&M has a lot more money than LSU. Way more. There are limited resources LSU can throw at its athletic programs. Second, the money A&M threw at Henry, along with the plegded upgrades in facilities, gave LSU about as much chance as the Marlins keeping up with the Yankees. Some of you idiots just assume that LSU has an endless supply of money to throw at their programs. Just as in pro sports, not all universities are equal in terms of financial ability.

"Four years ago, former A&M President Robert Gates and Byrne agreed that the athletics department would receive a $16 million line of credit from university funds for coaches' salaries and new facilities. The deal allowed the department access to the credit for four years, with 10 years to repay the money without interest. The first quarterly payment is due Nov. 30." LINK

thanks for proving my point. LSU wouldn't have that kind of money to "lend" to the athletic dept. To nail down the point, try googling "university endowments". Forbes ranks the Texas A&M system as the 4th fastest-growing university in endowments, and they're the 10th largest overall in endowments at $5.7 billion.

The point was that the Texas A&M athletic department doesn't have the money to pay for coaches, etc., they were laying people off because of having to cut budgets. They had to borrow money from the school itself. LSU's athletics department actually gives LSU over 5 million dollars per year to help the school out. Just in football alone according to Forbes latest figures LSU's football profit was 47 million compared with A&M's 30 million. Huge difference. LSU is ranked as the 4th most valuable football program, A&M is 17th behind SEC schools LSU, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, Arkansas and South Carolina. Now I don't have the facts as to what other sports generate and total revenue from all sports but football IS the largest money maker for all sports except maybe the traditional powerhouse basketball schools like North Carolina, Kentucky, Duke, etc.
Because A&M has large endowments for the school itself does not mean their athletic department benefits from it as evidenced by them fairly recently having to borrow 16 million from the school for salaries, etc. LSU is also one of only 4 or 5 schools in the entire country that doesn't take money from the school or collect student fees.
While A&M's athletics department was borrowing money to pay salaries, LSU's athletics department was "flush with money." LINK
