The problem is they call them reality shows, when they are staged or directed to act certain ways to get ratings.

I think a lot of people hear the term "reality show" and immediately think the show is expecting the viewers to believe the cameras were randomly filming and whatever happens is what they are going to put on TV.

That wouldn't even be possible and it would be risky for a network to do. There has to be some staging, scripting, etc involved.

I think reality TV is meant more along the lines that the people in the show isn't actors/actresses. They are real in terms of what they are doing is real to them.

Of course Pawn Stars is "staged" to a point, but could those dudes star in a blockbuster movie?

I think people watch these shows to get away from reality. There might be a few out there that think they're real and unscripted, but most of us see them for what they are. If people enjoy themselves watching them, go for it. Better than watching 24 hour cable news, that's for damn sure.

I like to watch American Pickers, American Restoration, Full Metal Jousting, Deadliest Catch, Survivor, and Amazing Race. I also watch Swamp People and AxMen because I get a kick out of how they portray cajuns. If anyone considers me a moron...
