No I don't think it's common, if a school got caught doing this they would be suspended from bowls for multiple years, and the coach would probably be banned.

This.

This isn't the NFL where players are already getting paid. (lets save that arguement for later). Let's all just go with the philosophy that these are not professional atheletes in college. So you are suggesting that not only are coaches/boosters/football programs paying their atheletes, they are paying them specific amounts for big hits or injuries to other players...I think not.

Now if you are asking me if players get on the field and target a specific player and try to hit them hard enough to injure them, then yes I think so. But they are doing that for a multitude of reasons: he ran his mouth earlier that week, he has a history of putting up big plays, he has an already nagging injury, he fricked someone's sister/girlfriend.

If they weren't trying to hurt each other then they would not hit each other with the power that they do.
