Why should you make a copy and give it to them as opposed to giving them your license?

What does the sales person do with your license when you are asked for it?

They make a copy of it.

So, if you are able to do that for them (make a copy), there is no chance they will "misplace" your driver's license.

What is the likelihood of you leaving the dealership without your "misplaced" driver's license? Now, ask yourself again, what is the likelihood you leaving the dealership without your "copy" of your driver's license? My guess is that you'll be fine without your "copied" license paper.

This isn't a game. These guys know what they are doing. They do this on a day in, day out basis. You do this once every X number of years. They will try every trick in the book to wear you down - ever been approached by multiple sales people while in the negotiation process? This isn't by accident.

it prevents them from "losing" it and keeping you at the stealership longer.
