How many years is a coach allowed to turn a program around? Just curious what everyone thinks.
Do yall think it would be better to make the NCAA or NIT?

I think it depends on the state of the program that was inherited, the caliber of the program in general, and other factors.
In the last 20 years, LSU has finished greater than 8-8 in the SEC only four times. If LSU reaches that level this year, I think that can be considered a very positive step in the right direction and on the way to being turned around.

How many years? I don't know, but I do know that he took the same team Brady finished last with to an SEC title the very next year minus Randolph. Look, I'm not a huge fan of TJ, but with the recruits he's bringing in we're never going to be "great". LSU basketball will always be up and down, so what does the question of "how many years" even mean? As long as he can bring a competitive basketball team in consistently and give us a chance to dance from time to time I'm ok with it. Do I want more, yes, but I don't expect it. A good start would be getting a staff worth a damn and maybe an offensive guy in here to draw up some plays. I'm ok with what he's doing for now though.

I agree that the program is improving. It just seems that the fans have accepted mediocrity with BB.

I miss the days when making the tourney was almost a given. There has to be a way to restore the program to the way it was in the 80's.
LSU football sucked and we brought in Saban...he made a difference and now 10 years or so later we have a better program than ever. I just wonder if we should not go after another coach.

I'm with you Trout. I've been going to football, bball, and baseball my whole life, and I can only remember bball back to CJ's first year and I'm thankful for that. Seeing Shaq and Stanley w/ CJ was unforgettable. I loved the Livingston and Henderson yeas as well w/ Ceasar and some other decent players thrown in from time to time. Other than that, I'd have to say the best years since then are the sweet 16 w/ Bright/Swift/Smith/BB/Roland, and the final 4 year, although it sucked freezing my arse off in Indy to watch them flop ag. UCLA. I'm always in hopes of a big name guy coming and turning it around, and it'll happen one day. It just won't be the same as what we call the glory days even though our glory days are probably different.
With all of that said, mediocrity has been accepted here and it's b/c the players come and go so quickly. If you're not Kansas, UNC, Duke, or Kentucky, it's hard to bring the 5 stars in w/o cheating, and even they cheat.

why cheat to get recruits in basketball? we should save that stuff for football obviously!

It is tough to recruit when players come here and see a half full PMAC.
The days with CJ, Shaq were tough to beat. BB games were as fun if not better to attend than FB games.

When we win it fills up just the same. As recently as TJ's first year the PMAC gradually got to full in the 2nd half of the season. Winning will fill it!

No doubt. Place gets crazy when they have a great team to watch.

Just having an exciting player helps big time. We need flamboyance and charisma. I like watching Hickey, and O'Bryant is growing on me, but we need a Stromile type to come in and energize us. Not having top notch La talent doesn't help either.

With all the talent we have in other sports that is a surprise.

Being willing to give a coach time to build his program/his way does not equate to anyone accepting "mediocrity", but simply shows an understanding of the fact TJ did not come to a thriving BB program but a struggling one.
16-10, 6-6 is whole lot better than the combined 22-40 with 5 SEC wins we endured in the past 2 seasons. imo
I'm not sold on TJ yet, but I am willing to note this year's much improved record over the past two and take a wait and see approach.
Just seems reasonable/sane to me.

Until he gets us to at least a Final 4, I will continue to think he's the worst recruiter and coach in modern LSU basketball history.

We miss on too much LA talent. Not just this year.
Look at Baton Rouge's Langston Galloway at St. Joe's. Was he A-10 freshman of the year last year? Don't start with "Oh, that's the A-10" BS. Outside of KY, they would play with everyone else in the SEC. Tall lefthander shooting over 45% from 3-ville. Great defender as well.
Don't think TJ made much of an effort with Galloway. Regardless of the kids ties to the Philly area.
There is plenty of talent in LA to KEEP LSU competitve and then some.
This is his fourth year of "we are a young team".
Too big a pass for him IMO.

You say this and then list one example? That's a compelling argument. Hell I'll even give you a 2nd one since I assume the this year part is about Gathers. But who else? Two players?
