I got into a discussion with a coworker about eating barracuda. I have never eaten them and always threw them back. My coworker says you can eat them if they are caught in deep water since they have not eaten the toxic shallow water fish that live in and around coral reefs. Here's a pic of one I caught last summer in deep water between Miami and the Bahamas. I'll quit throwing these things back if I can eat them. What says the board?

When I was still in high school in the early 90's I had it on a beach south of Cancun. It was grilled with lemon and from what I remember very good. My taste buds might have also been very bad at the time

Too many other steaks in the freezer to even take a small risk. Have cut one up for bait before and it didn't smell all that good. Have always heard that it's only the ones caught over shallow water reefs that carry the toxins that they bioaccumulate. Also heard you can put a piece in an ant pile-if they eat it, you can, if they don't, you don't. Like I said, I'll stick to my YF and lemonfish.

I agree. Just wanted to get some other opinions. The guys I fish with in South Fl called me a "crazy cajun" for even pulling one of them on the boat. You gotta get the pics though or it didn't happen. I'm going to keep throwing them back.

I have had it a few times out of the country. Usually served as a steak with lemon and butter. Not bad

I know they look alot better when they are right out of the water...but it's just the two of us fishing and it's hard to take pictures when it's like a war on the boat and all the poles going off...that is a good feeling. All hell breaking loose when you are trolling six lines 20 miles out!
