Paterno wasn't just a great coach, he was Penn State's identity. As great and loved as Skip Bertman, Charles McClendon, Dale Brown and Les Miles one day are, I don't think the whole of the LSU community wraps up their identity in them. When we think LSU, we don't think one of those people as our singular identity.
With Eddie Robinson and the Grambling community, I suspect that dynamic is in place. And a lot of it has to do with these little towns being isolated. Happy Valley and Grambling are not dissimilar in that regard.
