Big green egg charcoal

At $27 a bag it's pricey but I think it's the best natural lump charcoal around. Big chunks and doesn't spark bad.

Don't remember the brand. But whatever the cheaper stuff they have at Goodwood hardware is great.

Would be interesting to light a certain amount of pounds of that and regular charcoal both in a BGE and see if is really worth the price compared to regular charcoal.

I like Royal Oak - make sure its the made in USA bag. Much larger lump than the BGE bags and I like the smaller bags that help keep it free of moisture, which greatly affects lump.

Royal oak makes BGE charcoal for what it's worth. The bag even says, "Manufactured exclusively for the Big Green Egg Co., Royal Oak".
RO 10 lb bag is 6+ bucks at Walmart. The Walmart is a bit smaller pieces. For cooking a steak or pizza at high heat or other such applications the RO gets a lot hotter, due to the increased surface area of the smaller pieces.
I've never seen enough difference to justify the double cost.
