I live in a small town in the foothills of the Smoky Mtns. I was in line at the grocery store day before yesterday wearning my LSU ballcap when a couple of Tennessee fans behind me brought up the incident. Their words were "Alabama fans love to point the finger at Tennessee fans and call us inbreds and hillbillies, but the fact is, they're the most uncivilized fan base in this country. Now the rest of the country knows what being an Alabama fan is all about." I couldn't have said it better...

The thing that's really unsettling about the Downing video is how matter of fact he is about it, he's almost in a weird trance-like state. Sick MF

The reason that Bama fans are so quick to point the finger at other fanbases is that they have every bit of that in themselves. So, they just assume that other fanbases act accordingly.
The best analogy I can think of is when a person is cheating in a marriage and becomes overly jealous and angry of his/her spouse because he/she just assumes the other is cheating as well, all out of pure shame and guilt.
