Guess those HS films are pure fantasy.

Shep could put the ball downfield and is by far a better running QB than JJ.

Not sure anybody could do worse than JJ at QB with his 5 yard passes and deer in the headlights freaking after 4 years of starting games.

Done and over. MILES fricked up and cost us a BCSNC.

This isn't high school, this is "big boy football"

There are a lot of kids that look good in high school who can't throw on the college level. I have watched him throw in competition on ESPN against other college prospects and I was embarrassed for him.

This is what I don't get. To say that he is incapable of throwing a spiral or putting the ball a reasonable distance downfield just flies in the face of the video evidence.

Are the balls that much bigger in college vs high school that he is physically incapable of throwing a spiral with them?
If so, what was that whole deal of him working out with Jeff Blake while in high school? Were they stupid enough not to be working out with a college football?

and this evaluation in high school:
quote:

Has a smooth, fluid release and a quick, compact delivery on his throws. Flashes the ability to place the ball anywhere on the field. Shows some zip on underneath throws and can fit balls into tight spots. Has great touch and timing on the deep ball. Throws on the run very well and has the arm strength to throw off balance and across his body.

None of it jives with the idea that he is incapable of throwing the football.

Seems more likely that he couldn't throw 50 yards as well as JJ and Lee so we just wrote him off as a QB. If that's the case, we didn't need to waste any time evaluating him, b/c no one thought he was that kind of passer. But to me that speaks to our head coach's lack of creative thinking if you can't figure out a way in 3 years to make use of what everyone saw from RS in high school.
