Wouldn't a vertical passing game helped? I know that we did not have that since the Russell/Flynn/Perrilloux days. I have accepted this after the 2010 season. Just hoped for some efficency by the QBs.

I agree with Bama's D. I don't any team would have had success on them last night the way they were playing.

Flipped it on ESPN to try to catch the end of the Ohio State/Indiana bball game but I missed it and caught Sportscenter instead, surprisingly the run-down didn't have a thing about Bama
Good luck, despite the NC being yesterday, all ESPN has been showing for the most part is Tebow.

Has JJ ever run the zone read effectively?
Posted on 1/11/12 at 12:51 am to 7thWardTiger
I disagree...Lee would have let the ball go.....there is no basis for anyone to say he wouldn't have....go easy on assigning JJ's complete failure to Lee in any manner....Lee would have thrown the ball that is what got him in the dog house in the first place.....For four years JJ holds it and gets sacked Lee lets it go and some good and some bad......

Between the line getting good pressure and the array of double coverages, brackets, combo coverages, zone blitzes, i honestly believe the coaching staff was inclined to throw underneath and hope we can break one, and if not, punt and play D.

I agree with this. That is why I think they should have put Lee in. He is generally better at making reads then JJ and is a better pure passer. Alabama played up to stop the inside run and had DBs play up to stop the option. We needed to go vertical to get them to back off and JJ just doesn't have that kind of ability imo.
I think they were afraid that if they put Lee in to air it out he would throw a pick. It was a risk they needed to take, because Alabama clearly showed they didn't take JJ seriously as a passing threat.

Up & coming DC's are gonna watch, dissect, and learn from that film for years to come.
Not to take anyhting away from the coaching job they did, but those up & coming DC's are not going to have close to comparable talent.

I don't think Bama ever blitzed, they didn't have too. I do think that if they wanted to throw underneath, they should have went to the Shotgun and ran some slants and crossing patterns. JJ looked very confused, but no one can explain why no adjustments to help the offense.

Bama did blitz a few times. They only had to bring 5 becuse they knew our protection schemes. I said last night, and got blasted for it, that bama was bring the #1 and #2 priority of the tackle opposite the back when we were in the gun, because they knew our backs look to help in the middle with the interior lineman, and not the outside.

On one play DeAngelo Peterson was open. So open that he didn't have a defender near him for 20 yards. COMPLETELY open. Jefferson never saw him.
They said on the radio broadcast "There are receivers downfield who are open enough to throw to...."
How FRUSTRATING is it to know that? How frustrating is it for a coach to call passing plays and SEE your guys open only to have the QB tuck the ball and run because he doesn't want to throw.
Jefferson HANDCUFFED this offense and it's not just his fault. It's the coaches job to see that.

I don't know if you noticed but did you see those roll outs to the right? How much time did Jefferson have to throw the football? I think 4 at one point. Now Alabama is a damn great defense but NO defense is that good. NO defense is that good to cover recieves all the time the whole time every play.
If they were that good, they wouldn't be in position all the time either. There is ALWAYS a crack.
We did everything right to roll him out outside the pocket, away from pressure. Hell 10 yards from pressure and he doesn't pull the trigger.

7thWardTiger you are right on. The other thing I think is we and our players were starting to buy into this team being one of the best ever. To me folks were putting the cart ahead of the horse with Bama being just as good or better than us. Any way they beat us like a step child and Bama is No. 1. Saban will continue to be a thorn in the side of Miles for years to come .

7th Ward you hit the nail on the head ... they will be back with a vengance to "take care of unfinished business" Should be big fun next season when Second Chance Sabama comes to BR. Miles has been and will continue to be a thorn in Sabama's butt for a long, long time. He is the only coach that has beat Saban 3 times ... the story line continues ... Woody and Bo remake.

LSU prime coaching staff is not well. They need to have grapefruit and oatmeal for breakfast so that they can think creatively! They all need to lose 30 ibs. then they would see they could have had many pass completions and then they could have run the ball.

Well we would have stopped trying to run the fricking option with Lee. That right there is reason to want to see him.
The option caught Alabama off guard the first time. To go into this fricking game using it like its the centerpiece of the offense was just insane. "It worked last time and Alabama will never prepare for it and if it seems they have we'll just keep running it!"
This was never an option fricking offense but our staff decided to make it one.

NO EXCUSE.
MILES DID NOT HAVE THIS TEAM READY TO PLAY. HE MADE NO ADJUSTMENTS TO THE GAME PLAN.
IT WAS A TOTAL BITCH SLAP BY SABAN.
AND WE MAY NOT GET ANOTHER CHANCE NOT TO LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN ............

They didn't have to "sniff it out." They were in cover two almost the whole night and these were 2 man screens. They were set up perfectly to kill that play all night long. The weakness of the cover 2 is deep middle, not sideways. Did we have a QB or staff that noticed that and what it meant?????? No, we did not.

There were multiple times the receiver read the block wrong and basically ran right into the defender. The execution on a few of those plays was painful to watch.
