Correct me if I am wrong (tell the truth though), but I think you were not around in the 60's. I was an LSU student from spring '63 to spring '69 and I have always followed the Tigers.

A regular season was 10 games back then and his record was helped tremendously by beating 7 inferior opponents every year (Texas A & M, Rice, Kentucky, Miss St, Tulane, etc) and having a losing record against Bama, Ole Miss and Florida.

He did have some good wins in his tenure, but he could have done a lot better.

Texas A&M? Rice (in the 60s)? Tulane? In the 70s, Mac played OOC "rent-a-wins" like Notre Dame, Colorado and USC. Good luck selling that somewhere else. We play three teams every year as bad or worse as Rice/Tulane were in the 60s.

From '69 through '73, Mac had a much better conference record than Saban did - I'm having trouble seeing your point.

Same is true for Saban - UAB, Texas, Kentucky (should have lost that game), Alabama(2002), Iowa.

Same is true for Miles, UGA (SEC-CG '05), Kentucky & Arky in 2007, Ole Miss in 2008, Ole Miss in 2009.

I'm not saying Mac was "perfect", his offenses, particularly in the 70s were far too conservative and predictable. He was resistant to change. He was also an outstanding football coach and a fine man.
