AZ Archery Elk Hunt

So dropped my three gals off at the airport today to be with family. First time in over a year I've had any time other than work away from them. Have a bull elk archery tag here in one of AZ's best units. Waited 19 yrs for this. And 4 of my best buds are flying in from La. to help for a whole week tomorrow. So quick couple questions for you archery hunters. Shooting a Z7. Had shoulder surgery last year so have it set relatively low at 60lbs. Shot my fixed Montac steel blades today. Pretty good at 40 yards and hitting about a 6"-12" grouping. But at 30.....they seemed to drop a little. Grouping is about 6"-8" there but again a little low. Should I just lower that pin a bit to compensate? I was a bit tired after shooting a number of times so that could be it. Hate doing this right before I go but haven't had time to really dial in with the blades. And are blades really going to affect it that much? Second.....Is a 50 yard shot out of the question set at 60LBS? I feel pretty comfortable with the shot.......But will I get the damage push I need? Thanks.

I would be practicing alot & trying to strengthen my shoulder to turn my bow up.

I would not adjust anything just yet...if you may have been tired that could be the reason. Trying shooting 30 yrds after some rest. Then you can make an adjustment if you are still having problems. Also a 50 yard shot at 60 lbs of draw should be able to bring the animal down but a lot of it will depend on your broadhead weight and type of arrow you are shooting to know you would have enough kentic energy to have good penetration. Also congrats on the bull tag and good luck on your hunt.

This is a sound assessment. You can take the bull at 70 yards with a 60# draw, or screw it up at 20 yards - all about placement as you well know. Stay away from bones and get it into the boiler! Good luck!
