Here's hoping LSU drops Towson, N Texas, or Idaho and NOT Washington from next year's schedule.

Mike Slive disagrees
at 3:15 in this interview he says 6 division games, 1 permanent rival, 1 rotating game
interview was released at 4:30 PM today

Interesting. Somebody's got it screwed up then.

guessing the USC president is right, and maybe let the cat out of the bag too soon.
he went into detail, going as far as to say that the SEC will reimburse schools for broken contracts.
Slive, on the other hand, was speaking quickly and could have either chosen not to reveal that, or misspoke.

yeah, that was my thought as well. I'm all for 9 games if the rivalry games have to be preserved. As has been pointed out numerous times, playing a fellow conference school 2 out of every 12 years is just ridiculous.

We might as well just rename each division and call them separate conferences. This shite is dumb!

Even if that happens, an eight game schedule is an even bigger issue...7 div opponents, 1 perm from the opposite division and you never play the other 7?

Who we getting? Oklahomas?

I think its more than 50 50 that the SEC stays at 14 for that long, actually.
You either get rid of the permanent rival, or go to 9 conference games.

lsu would have to pay a lot of money to get out of the Washington game.

4 pods, because that's the ideal conference format for 16 teams.. and works perfectly with an 8 game schedule
and I'm not nostradamus, I don't know who the other teams will be

i haven't looked at it before, but i don't see how. you would play the three other teams in your pod every year, and then rotate 2 of the 4 in the other 3 pods. that = 9 game schedule.
ETA...here's a link to an article that was floating around when Texas, OU etc were considering a move to the Pac 12.

If the Longhorns were in Pod A, they would play the other Pod A teams (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech) every year. They would also play two teams from Pod B, Pod C and Pod D, bringing the total to nine conference games every year.

I was just looking at this and came up with three in-pod games, a permanent rival in each of the other pods, and rotate three other games - one from each of the other pods. Like your arrangement, 9 conference games would be played.

Right, your scenario is more likely due to the permanent rivalries which i didn't factor in. And even if they did figure a way to do it in eight games, we'd have the same problem of seeing certain teams only a handful of times every 50 years.

i see what you did, but without doing the math, it would still seem that would be long periods between playing certain teams, unless you split up the home and home matchups.

If you're going with pods, western teams almost have to be 15 and 16. OU and OSU with Ark and Mizzou; aTm,LSU,Miss and MSU; AU, Bama, UT and Vandy; Uga, UF, USC and UK.
