Les has met those, and that's what's so gratifying.

I don't believe Miles had won over the fanbase 5 years ago.

Two years ago people were calling for him to be fired.

two? try last year

think he's finally winning majority of everyone this year, by finally getting rid of Crowton and putting JJ where he belonged, as a back-up

No matter what Les Miles does, he will never get the respect he deserves.

Am I to understand that because of Nick Saban, Les Miles has ahd an easier road.

I'm here to say BS. It's much harder to maintain that high level than it is to build it for one year. Just ask Urban Meyer.

Very succinct summation of why LSU is #1 this year but unable to get there in '09 and '10.

Les also seems much less uptight and unintelligible this year.

If anyone knows those two coaches, it is Charlie Weems. He was part of the team that hired both and is still friends with Nick and has become close friends with Les. I don't think your average LSU fan appreciates what we have at LSU. Nick's intensity would probably have worn itself out at LSU by now and I expect it will at Bama. Les is the right guy at LSU. Look at how much publicity our university gets. This is a great thing!

How do I know all this? Charlie Weems is my step-father.

I don't think that's true at all. I think he's had to overcome a lot and still has some things left to do. But IMO he is well on the way to getting all the respect he deserves.

My arse. This is ridiculous. With his attrition Dinardo was running it straight back in the ground. Never include Dinardo in with Saban and Les....it's an insult to them both.

Of course, this is absolutely true, which is why I guffaw when people compare Saban's overall LSU record to Miles' overall LSU record as if it actually means something. People who can't comprehend that the program was in a vastly better condition in 2005 than in 2000 are mentally challenged.

Miles just needs to beat Saban this weekend. We can end all of the speculation and surmise and extrapolation. Settle it on the field.

Please, other than a lucky win out of his arse here and there and a good recruit occasionally DiNardo was a complete clusterfrick and an awful coach. That's why he got fired.

DiNardo may have been an awful coach but he was a good recruiter. He began the run of top recruiting classes that has not abated since. Before DiNardo, LSU routinely lost the top recruits in the state to other programs, especially recruits from New Orleans. DiNardo changed that and LSU has benefitted from it ever since. Remember, Saban won his first SEC title and Sugar Bowl with DiNardo's players.

Don't get me wrong. I was glad to see DiNardo go. I was at his last game, a humiliating loss to Houston in which Tepper's defense was at its lowest ebb. But he did not leave the cupboard bare.
