Roughing the passer a cause in the rise of qb play?

I just watched Aaron rodgers hold the ball for roughly 4 seconds, reverse field and throw a ball for a 22 yard completion with Jared Allen in his face. Allen may have been able to hit Rodgers 2-3 years ago on the play but not today.
This brings me to my question: Because the defense essentially can't put anymore "remember me" shots on qbs has this directly lead to the increase in offensive production?
I believe so. Qbs can stay more calm and focused throughout the game knowing they won't get hit as much.

It's getting pretty ridiculous these days. I bet in a few years it's going to get so bad the trend will start reversing bc people are so tired of it.

I'm sure it helps some, but I think it'd be on the lower end of factors that contribute to the gaudy offensive numbers of the past two decades.

I agree, obviously, talent and schemes are just becoming better as the game continues and evolves.
I just keep thinking back to the 09 NFC championship game. If that game is played today Minn wins going away. Favre took a beating and it showed throughout the game despite not being sacked once.

The #1 cause is the fact that DBs can't mug receivers going down the field anymore. Any contact beyond 5 yards is almost always flagged. WRs can still push off and arm bar DBs though.
