This is the deal. Drug testing for both street drugs and PED (performance enhancing drugs) are the responsibility of the universities. When a positive screen is confirmed, the school policy is used and no report to the NCAA is required. This saves the NCAA the HUGE headache of testing all universities and crossing into some state's differing laws. The NCAA does test student athletes at major events like national meets and some major bowl games for both illicits and PEDs. That's their gig only. This IS an internal deal-as stated by King Les.

Regarding drug testing, MOST drugs are screened for their metabolites and not the active substance.

A very good website that has gobs of info on drugs and testing that is actually quite scientific and correct is erowid.

All that said, I hate that our boys violated team rules and are suspended regardless of all the differing opinions on the legality or morality of tokin up. We're going to kick Auburn's arse either way. It would've been nice with the full complement. Lessons will be learned and hopefully it'll make our team a bit wiser.
