I like Seth Rogan and 50/50 looks good

Sadly I've heard good things about 50/50 from people who don't just run to the box office to throw their money at hot garbage.

"I too think 50/50 looks good and don't forget about that new Anna Faris movie! She's a hoot!

That's not that bad for a dramedy about cancer.

Wut?
Schindlers List, the Adam Sandler cancer movie, the HIV movie with Julia Robers and the two 9/11 movies are lol'ing at you. 50/50 is a box office bomb.

No. That's a pretty decent start for a movie about cancer, and should hold up well for the next few weeks.
You can't see a difference between some of the movies you listed and 50/50?

I know I had no interest in seeing any of the new movies that opened this week, and that's pretty rare for me.
Perhaps I should have gone to see 50/50 today as cancer is less depressing than reading the Rant.

Are they not all comedies?
Oh. Oh. My bad. Clearly Adam Sandler movies aren't funny.
My bad.

The movie cost $8 million to make. I guarantee the studio thought a ceiling for this movie going up against the competition it went up against was low teens.
$8 million and change was not very bad, and it'll do alright in the coming weeks.

A) where did you find the budget cost? It's not on boxofficemojo.com
B)
at you for thinking it's numbers are only going to get better after opening in 5th place.
C)
more laughing at you because more people saw a movie about a gimped dolphin than saw 50/50.

More people saw a movie about a gimped dolphin than any other movie this weekend. Does that make it better than Moneyball? The Lion King? No? Then what's your point?
I never said that numbers would get better. Just that it would do well in the coming weeks. Also, if you can direct yourself to your original post, you'll see that it finished in 4th place, not 5th.
AND OH MY GOD THE BUDGET ISN'T ON BOXOFFICEMOJO?!?! HOW DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING IF IT ISN'T ON BOXOFFICEMOJO?!?!

From your beloved boxofficemojo.com:
I think I pretty much said exactly that.
quote:
50/50 opened to an estimated $8.86 million from 2,458 theaters, which is the lowest debut ever for a Seth Rogen movie. Considering the grim subject matter, though, that's not an entirely awful start, and an "A-" CinemaScore should translate in to decent word-of-mouth in coming weeks.

50/50 made $8.8 million with an $8 million budget (unless they aren't including marketing costs which can't be but a few million for this movie). That's not the definition of a bomb. It made a profit. Now if the movie was made for, say, $30 million then it would in fact be a bomb.

And I said no it's not going to do any better. And you said it would do well. If by "do well in the coming weeks" you mean sink like a stone and end up in the walmart $5 bin before New Years, then yes. Yes it's going to do well over the coming weeks.

Were talking about how you think 50/50 is a good movie that's going to do well over the next few weeks after opening in 5th....4th....whatever place. Behind a movie that's re-released and a movie about a handicap fish.
