Poultry Business

Anyone have experience in the poultry business? Primarily, owning chicken houses and contracting with Tyson or Koch.

My grandfather owned quite a few at one time. The regulations now are pretty much a deal breaker. There was a documentary I watched on it recently but I can't remember the name. There are much easier ways to make money for sure

Ag Business major with Poultry minor here! I also manage Hooters 
That course in life was not planned. I'm not directly over our contracting with Tyson though. Just the only manager in the company that understands the emails on our contracts.

Dang, I'm meeting with a guy this week who owns a few about possibly getting in the business. He seems to be doing okay

But seriously, I pass quite a few poultry houses on my way through Laurel MS and what appears to be the owner's house's are pretty ballin. I've also heard that it's a money making business, but take that FWIW.

The price of chicken has steadily been on the rise. It's definitely not a product where subsidies have to be given out so that producers do not drive the price down too low. If you can keep your costs as static as possible you'll do well.

where my parents live at there are four families with 4 to 16 houses. they are a burden until paid off then you can make good money. But you are at the mercy of the producers (tyson, etc....)
They can show up at all times of the day for a delivery or pickup when the chickens are ready, feed prices are through the roof, and several other factors are included.
I have two uncles that got out several years ago because they had their houses paid off and tyson wanted them to do some upgrades which would have cost in excess of $100,000 per house or else they would not deliver them anymore chickens. Wife also has a few uncles that have gotten out of the business.
