Deeper look at the possible teams for the SEC

I took a look at the numbers of a few teams being thrown around as possible future SEC schools and how they compare to UK right now. It looks like Virgina Tech and West Virgina are the two teams to add. However, this is based upon their wins and conference titles. These numbers are from 2003 -> 2010(Did not include this year).

1.) Virgina Tech - 78 or 9.75/yr
2.) West Virgina - 72 or 9/yr
3.) Missouri - 65 or 8.13/yr
4.) Florida St - 62 or 7.75/yr
5.) Clemson - 59 or 7.38/yr
6.) Kansas St - 50 or 6.25/yr
7.) Kansas - 48 or 6/yr
8.) N.C. St - 45 or 5.63/yr

Those teams play in the big east, acc, and b12. UK would have won the big east in 06, 07, and 08 and gone to a bcs bowl. probably 09 as well. Pretty close to the same had we been in the acc.

That's what I'm seeing. Half of the teams that keep getting brought up would do no better then UK in conference.

Being competitive in football is not the only criteria to examine though. The SEC also needs to look at expanding its geographic footprint, getting teams that will bring viewers to the tv and put people in the stands and fitting in culturally.
We have already won five BCS championships in a row and (I believe) are 7-0 in BCS title games. Clearly on-field product at the top of the conference is not where we are coming up short.

Why add teams to a conference though that aren't going to be watched? No one really wants to watch LSU-UK outside of LSU/UK and maybe the SEC fan who doesn't have anything else to watch.

Virginia Tech, and I would say West Virginia, would be just as big of a pick up as would Missouri. The teams such as NC St, Clemson, and the Kansas schools are not going to add that much more then what we already have.

if you are speaking strictly in market/fans terms then clemson is at the bottom of the list.
how many clemson fans dont get SEC football on their TV now?
the others all add new markets that dont currently have any real SEC coverage.

~Edit: They are under Clemson in terms of wins, and are equal to NC State in bowl games. Their 3 years that they did not make a bowl game were 4 win seasons.

0 Bowl Wins in 5 Appearances

This assumes that all else is equal, and is made up of the teams that are being mentioned not just some teams that I wanted.
They sure as hell aren't going to add Temple even though they could bring a decent market.
