Now that I think about it some more, I do think Broyles deserves some credit.

I know he has said that he talked to Kramer a few times in the 80s, basically saying "if you expand, we are interested". That may have given Kramer the confidence to go about expanding the SEC.

Obviously they shot for the Texas teams at the same time, but I think Kramer knew Arkansas was a go to the SEC before he ever announced they were looking.

All they needed from that point was to sew up team number 12, and hope for 13 and 14.

Carolina became 12 and that was all that was needed to get the ball rolling.

The Big 12, the 12 team ACC, the B1G and Pac 12 don't happen without the SEC moving to 12 in 1992.

Broyles deserves some credit for it happening the way it did. That's not to say it would not have happened otherwise. But his vision and foresight did help get us to where we are today.

Exactly, and I think this example shows how people losing their shite about superconferences might be overreacting. The Big 12 was the only immediate reaction, the ACC didnt happen until around 10 years later, and the others didn't happen until this past year.

16 team conferences could absolutely happen, but to expect it to be that way in 4 or 5 years seems a little crazy given history. I think the SEC and PAC sit at 14 and it stops there.
