I personally hate the "Tive".
All the B.S. about getting it to your back quicker is garbage. The back has to take his eyes off the hole to catch the pitch...whereas on a normal handoff (like every other football does) the QB brings it to the back deep and he can focus on the hole.
The only thing I can possibly think of is its a ball handling issue. Since it seems to be a short yardage play...it allows the back the opportunity to secure the ball while using his momentum to move the pile and picking up a few yards. Any extra is lagniappe.
