Mizzou and the SEC

For those who think Missouri isn't "southern" enough.

tl;dr

I grew up in the Ozarks, which might as well be the South. You can say that for most of Southern Missouri but as for the rest of the state (North of I-70) that area is not Southern, not even close.

Anything north of Joplin is the absolute cutoff. Springfield is like another culture all together. It's just not the same. Sorry

Odd you would say that since the area still called "Little Dixie" is north of I-70 and St. Louis.

I've spent a lot of time in STL, my brother and a ton of family still live there, and the people up there crack more jokes about southerners and their culture as bad as any city I've been too. So now you're trying to me you qualify as Southern?

Exactly, bunch of yankee/liberal fricks. Plus SEC doesn't need Big10 rejects

KC and STL are not in the south

I'm out here for school, and I told people back home in Virginia that St. Louis is a mix of the Midwest, South, and North, with none of the good qualities of the three. They do think of the South as hicks, which is quite ironic considering how backwards this place is.

I like Mizzou because I currently live in northeast Kansas and can't stand all the damn Jayhawk fans. Which since they really hate Mizzou, I can admire the Tigers and cheer for them.

I would say Springfield has its fair share of southerners. I imagine it's mostly people who have migrated up from Arkansas because we have a lot of alumni living there. However, they also have their fair share of douchebag notherners as well.

I feel no animosity toward Mizzou.

Still, do not want.

Hey, Mizzou started this crap and the breakup of the Big 12 by making goo-goo eyes at the Big 10, with fans spouting off on message boards hither and yon that their rivalry with Illinois (or whoever) was SOOOOOO much bigger than Kansas. Don't come grovelling to the SEC wanting a bunk just because the B1G dumped you for the Corn.

The only reason I would advocate them to the SEC is because I know a lot of Mizzou people and it would be a convenient place to go see games.

I actually think Mizzou would be a good addition but to say anything north of Springfield is "southern" is laughable.

Columbia is still 5 hours from Fayetteville. I just don't see the appeal.

Mizzou is about is "Southern" as Texas IMO.

The only area in Texas I would consider being like the South is East Texas and A&M is just on the outskirts of that region. Many would say its not in East Texas at all. Most of Texas feels like... well, Texas. I guess you could call us more South Western than anything.

Same goes for Missouri. It has its little pockets that are based in Southern culture but the majority of the state feels more Mid Western to me.

The state of Missouri is starting to produce some serious talent. Petrino has even made it an emphasis in recent years. Has large media markets, competitive programs and I have no doubt a rivalry would develop between us and them in football.

One thing that stood out to me (and that has stood out all along)...

Adding A&M and Mizzou would double the number of AAU members in the SEC. I know that's probably not a huge deal to most people who are thinking about football, but in terms of conference academic strength, it could only help.
