unbelieavble. this guy had been training so hard for this race. no telling what he would have done to that competition and his own world record.. the winning time ended up being 9.92.

DAEGU, South Korea -- Usain Bolt again did the unbelievable when it mattered most in the 100 meters.
This time, no gold medal or world record, but a false start and straight elimination from the world championships in a race he has regally reigned over for three years.
In a stunning few seconds, Bolt's showboating turned into disbelief when he jumped the gun and was led away from the track before Jamaican teammate Yohan Blake won gold ahead of American rival Walter Dix.

Damn that sucks. He'll break another record at the Olympics next year, though.

that's why there are rules...

Was it the fastest false start ever recorded?

The other thread mentions this

I thought you get one free pass at a false start?

i thought so too.
a lot of guys there were surprised they escorted him away.

They changed the rules last year. This is really the best option for sprints. You can debate the merits of the alternate options, but two false starts each could in theory take almost half an hour to run it. Also, the false start to the field is kind of bullshite when a lesser competitor intentionally false starts to keep guys like Bolt, Dix, Powell, and Gay on their toes, so to speak.
The current rule is one and done. This is the huge drawback to this option (when a contender gets DQ'ed), but really the fairest and most efficient way to start the races.

The one and done rule is stupid.

You wrong, dude. Rule sucks.

The thing that was stupid is that he was so
dominant in the early rounds that he didn't need a great start. He didn't need a good start or even an average start. He could have been last out of the blocks and still won. He only has himself to blame.

cant really blame the man for still having the desire to not just win but break the world record..

The rule changed in 2010.

What do you suggest? And by the way, the old rule didn't keep reigning Olympic champion Linford Christie from being kicked out of the 1996 Olympic final.

I think hey should go back to 2 hances, in the semis Dwain Chambers got DQ'd for flinching but not actually leaving the blocks which is ridiculous
On todays (UK)coverage Michael Johnson hinted that he went because Blake moved his right leg, but not enough to set of the blocks, not an excuse but a potential reason

Some sprinters start with their eyes closed just for that reason.
