And maybe I'm wrong, but growing up it wasn't always my actions that I was punsihed for, but sometimes for merely putting myself in a bad situation, that I could have otherwise controlled. I figure the same principal could apply here.

But you aren't famous. No one cares if you get in a bar fight. Furthermore, when you grew up 15-20 years ago, there weren't youtube videos and web forums where all these rumors would spread like wildfire. The same principles surely cannot apply to your childhood in the 90s, and a national championship-contending football team in 2011.
