INHO, what happened to Crowton?

When LSU first announced that their offensive co-ordinator was going to be Gary Crowton, I was estatic to the point of the ghey.
I remember talking w/other fans at the time of his hire, and all of us genuinely believing we got the absolute best possible hire of the entire populace of possibilities.
07 rolls along, and me/you/pretty much everyone (including Flynn) were calling him the Wizard.
Then it goes from great to ok to bad to deplorable.
I remember a link to an article a while back where an Oregon fan said this would happen with Crowton - that his offenses get worse, but I forgot his rationale. He did provide some statistical evidence though. I can't remember if the Oregon guy called the shot on him prior to our offensive demise, or after it happend.
Anyway, what do y'all think happened to him? Part of has to be personnel, but that's not the whole deal.
With time, do his offenses get so complex that they become disfunctional?
Does he lose the fire?
How can a guy get worse instead of better?

Failed to recruit QB's that require less than total development from a physical and mental stand point...Crowton is a play caller and not necessarily a QB coach per say...
Biggest fault is he did not recruit the type QB's he needed to win with at this level...

Terrible recruiter and not able to adapt to the SEC. Jimbo Fisher had a lot to do with the development of J Russ and Matt Flynn. Flynn was a 5th year senior and could pick up complexities with ease. That being said, there were even times when we were too "cute" during 2007 as well.

The post as I recall was from a BYU alum and it talked about organizational things than about gameday issues. (doing things like calling a team meeting on the spur of the moment then dismissing it after everyone arrives without really discussing anything).
BTTF and Jackson answers make the most sense to me.
