to new readers of the HP series if there was a prequel like this that they could read. Would reading the prequel before the HP series ruin many of the surprises and mystery surrounding Harry that is slowly revealed throughout the series? The only real thing that would be revealed beforehand are likely the Horcruxes. You also don't need to go as far as when Voldemort finds out about Harry. Just talk about his initial rise to power.
