I think that the younger Tiger fans are looking at statistics and not what the QB contributed to the success of the team. There has been an evolution from the 50's when defense was emphasized (even to the extent of punting on third down) and the running game was the prime method of advancing the ball. When Ray Graves took over as head coach at Florida in 1960, he said that their offense would be designed to be able to score on every play. The rest of the SEC coaches said he did not belong in the SEC.
Incidently, Florida beat LSU in Tiger Stadium 13 - 10 that year on a 66 yard run by the quarterback.
Russel never impressed me when he was in college, except for his arm strength, as he did not understand the game. I am afraid that our current starting quarterback is the same way.

well that explains his absence, even though I don't agree. why'd you leave off Ro? and what about, say, Mauck says that he understood the game better than JaMarcus?

Our current starting quarterback is the same way? Yeah right... we all freaking WISH he was the same way.

He apparently still doesn't understand the game. Can you imagine what type of QB Jamarcus would've been with Peyton Manning's brain?
