For gulf-style seafood eat at S&D Oyster House on McKinney Ave in Uptown. They have a great oyster supplier. Best oysters I've had that weren't straight off the boat. It's also in a really cool historic brick building.

If you want Thai, there is a good place off of Upper Greenville called Royal Thai.
