People will offer scientific studies and anecdotal evidence. The easiest way to find out whether it has a perceptible effect or not is to try it out. If crawfish taste better for you after having purged them with salt than they do without purging, then it is pretty clear what you should do.
To answer your question, I haven't been able to tell a difference so I don't worry about purging.

I don't use salt. It doesn't do anything to the crawfish except kill them.
People used to bleed out their illnesses and ailments with leeches...but I guess 10 generations of bleeders can't be wrong....

Actually, some doctors have started using leeches on very bad infections...in most cases it has saved limbs and lives...
No salt
