Anyone have any experience with using Google Adwords and/or Adsense? Seems like it would be the thing to do if you are needing to advertise a business like a specialized consulting service where the person wanting such would probably google the associated key words.

Yes, I have experience. AdWords can be good but you can burn through dollars real quick too. Be sure to sent a modest daily spending limit when you're learning.

I agree with Nolanola. You need to set a modest daily spending budget or all your dollars will go away quickly.

Google is always running a free $75 or $100 promo to try Adwords. I would secure one of those before trying it so it doesn't cost you anything. You will also be able to gauge what the budget will actually run after the free ad dollars are used up.

You can always tweak the spending limit and turn ads off at certain times of the day or on weekends,

If it is for a consulting business where you need to meet with clients, then I would set a geographic ad placement so you get local customers seeing your ads.

You daily ad budget gets depleted by competitors and unintended clicks.

You can also limit it to specific geographical areas - even down to the city - and days of the week and times of day. You can also turn it on and off like a light switch.

It also has a great keyword generator that will give you tons of probable search terms. It will even analyze a competitor's website (copy/paste competitor's url) and generate keywords based on that.
