its not up to the editor to take care of this .. its the on set crew (props/on set dresser) and ultimately the script supervisor to monitor continuity .. a close eye and diligent team will help with the mistakes.

Now, saluting incorrectly and the like .... that's on the producers if they don't pony up for a military expert to be on set ...

i watched shawshank the other day for the first time in a while and it some glaring issues ... one of which was a Hank williams album that was his greatest hits .. that is all on the Art department and them not doing their homework. That album came out 30 years after the date in the movie.
