How do people fail to recognize the facts here.
He did awesome his first year.
He chose to bite the bullet the second year because he got a late start on recruiting and wanted a different type of player to build the program on.
Plus, getting players from northern states is the equilivent of wake forest or georgia tech grabbing la'el collins or anthony johnson in football.
THAT MUCH HAS CHANGED FROM 10 YEARS AGO
When Johnson starts getting elite athletes (such as next year), he will have upperclassmen that are good because they have become skilled at their craft. As long as you have coaches getting on players you suck, when players start getting on players (to do homework, work on their left-hand, reverse pivot ect.) you win.
That's huge in today's game. It is a smarter game than it was 15 years ago.
When Ross Nelter (whatever his name was) transferred to vandy and i had a vision of him explaining why:
he hated playing stupid basketball with tack minor.
He did sign the best out of mississippi and alabama last year- but their all sophmore and freshman.
Add another year of weights and experience to this year's squad plus 6'11" Justin Hamilton and the O'bryant kid and the West is easily won.
