I also think you are missing the main theme of moneyball which is finding qualities and traits that a player has that are undervalued by other teams. the reason for this is to get an advantage as a small market team. during the time that the strategy started OBP was actually a stat that was often overlooked. If you want me to go on why it does work during the regular season but rarely works in the postseason just let me know.

I know that was the main theme of the book. I just specifically remember at one point in the book someone mentioned the importance of OBP and slugging. In your post that I initially responded to, I thought that you were wondering what the most effective measures of offensive production are.
