Dale has probably 50 wins that are unforgettable while Brady had about ten and TJ currently has about three. The '90 Loyola Mmt and UNLV games were two of 50. The '89 Georgetown game, too.

What Dale's downfall was, however, was the big picture. Dale rarely kept teams together. Hell his last tourney team might as well have been a group of strangers meeting for the first time the day of the game. He always went for atheltes who were academic risks and/or NBA lotto picks before the NBA REALLY owned the shite outta college basketball.

He did miracles with underdogs - '86 and '87 as prime examples. Dale only went as far as the 2nd round there after. In '88-'89, he lost in the first rounds. He beaat 12 seed Nova in '90 as his first post season win since DePaul of '87. Dale's last tourney win was 2 years after in '92 over BYU. The 2nd round never ket hin out. Also, Dale struggled to get far in the SEC tourneys. LSU was bounced by an awful AUburn team two years in a row in '90 and '91. Dale managed to get off the bubble by beating what might have been Vandy's greatest all-time team in '93 and make it into the SEC tourney finals - first time since 1987. In '92, LSU might have won the SECT as they were red hot and finding their groove. The carlus Groves incident, which I have become tired of describing and reliving....well, it didn't have to be that bad and Dale made it turn into a spectacle that cost the Tigers a 4-5 seed as opposed to a 7 seed and an easy, easy way for the NCAA committee to once again find a way for Brown and Bob Knight to have another rematch. Basically, Dale was best friends to many, but worst enemy to himself.

John Wooden said, "Dale did an outstanding job in raising the level of LSU basketball to the status of equality to anyone in the country. Also, if heads of states throughout this troubled world of ours had real concern and consideration for others as Dale Brown, I doubt if our racial, religious, and political problems would be a major issue."

Great post and info Pisces

LSU was a basketball school back then PERIOD.
