With miles at LSU, Length/expense etc.?

BelowPar basically said he heard:
7 Years
Same Salary
Buyout = $18.75 M, but doesn't start dropping until after year 3 (basically he's guaranteed $18.75 million through 2013.
Larger bonuses.
Basically contract is $26.25M guaranteed unless we fired Les now or after next season.
Budget Cuts? What budget cuts?

IF true, LSU just got owned. Alleva is Miles' bitch.
Proof again that fear makes men do foolish things.

I don't think it's greed, just opportunism. There was fear on both sides.
Miles:
What if at Michigan Les could not recruit like he can at LSU, and his deficiencies would be more exposed and contribute to losses that would be wins at LSU?
LSU:
What if Miles leaves and an upgrade can not be put in place? What happens to the staff? The incoming recruits?

It's the same salary. Buyout starts going down after two years...not three. How did anyone get owned? It's not that much different than the one he already had.

So you leverage $25M+ on one recruiting class?
There is absolutely no justification to pay Les that much. I thought we were in a recession and states were struggling to not get into huge budgets, but here's another $11.25 Million Les.

i know, i was hoping someone would bite
but still, that's a lot of money for a recruiting class and the possibility of maybe not hiring a capable replacement, imo

The state has nothing to do with Miles' salary. And it's ludicrous to say that anything was leveraged off of one recruiting class.

I didn't say I agreed with the "logic" of it. I think its somewhat absurd, especially the length and size of guaranteed money, just trying to put into words the thought process on each side.
EDIT: I'm sure there were other concerns on both "sides", and I expressed a somewhat cynical view of things. However, I think think its naive to assume that base motivations don't play into these things.

during the depression the entertainment industry was one of the only flourishing and profiting markets.
I don't know what this has to do with the argument. frick it

the LSU athletic department and LSU education are to seperate entities that work together. LSU athletics is completely self funded its one of two athletic programs in the country that doesnt get any tax dollars (the other is nebraska). so they can spend their money however they choose budget cuts do not affect them.

For all of you clamoring that LSU and the state don't pay his contract. I know that. They'd likely owe $2.1 Million for the life of the contract from LSU's end since his annual salary from LSU is $300k.
It's the precedence that is set overpaying. We are as bad as Bama now.
Also, the money for this raise will come from somewhere, AKA the pockets of fans. It's more about perception than anything else.
And also, I was responding to another person on this being about a recruiting class.

Who decides if LSU is overpaying?

What raise? He's already making that much money per year and it will continue for another few years. If anything, the rest of the elite coaches will catch up and pass those numbers in the next 5-6 years.
Sabain is higher
Chizik will get a huge raise
Petrino will get a few bumps
Moo U will have to ante up to keep Mullen
Richt's replacement at Ga will probably be a proven winner...
